In June 2022 we have tracked shortages in 13 countries: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Sweden, Spain, United Kingdom.
Countries pursue different policies in how they consider and announce shortages. Generally we track the shortages per SKU, therefore the same product but of two different pack size, or of two different strengths would be counted as two items in our database.
Total number of shortages observed were 1136.

Notes on our data
What we consider as a Shortage Announcement?
For us it is when a government or healthcare institution announces that a product is in shortage. It may be a shortage of a particular brand of a drug, or an SKU, such as a pack size, dosage form, or strength.
Normally we list each SKU (e.g. pack size or strength) as a separate shortage.
Hospital vs. retail - generally injection products are considered as hospital use, while all others as retail use. There are some exceptions like the adrenaline autoinjectors, which are counted towards the Retail category.
Notes on company names
Novartis and Sandoz are considered as separate companies for purposes of our reporting.
Berlin Chemie is counted as Menarini.
Tillomed is stated as is, although it has a parent company Emcure but in Europe it trades exclusively as Tillomed.
Genericon is listed as Gerrot Lannach.
ViiV listed as an independent company, even though it is a joint venture of GSK, Pfizer, Shionogi.
Krka also includes TAD.
Pensa Pharma is listed as TOWA.
